Association Profile
Established in 1975 with not a lot
of success, we started on the first of January 2000 with new energy, and
new people, to unite solarium operators on the basis of the "Standards
Australia for Solarium for Cosmetic Purposes, AS/NZS 2635/2002.
Due to public and government
health concerns, a lack of centralized information and general
miss-conceptions about the solarium industry in Australia, we have
established this association as nationally recognized industry body for
the indoor tanning industry.
We have established working
relations with the following Industry associations, whose members use
solaria in their business structure:
· Advanced
Association of Beauty Therapists ( AABTH)
· Fitness NSW
· Professional
Hairdressers Association
We are a member of the "Solarium
Standards Compliance Working Group", under the Chair of the Centre of
Health Promotion, NSW Health.
Other members of this group
include:
· The Cancer Council
NSW,
· Environmental
Protection Authority (EPA),
· Centre for Health
Research and Psycho-oncology (CHERP),
· Legal and
Legislative Services, NSW Health,
· Policy and Research
Department of Local Government.
·
Since May 2003, ongoing work for
this group is still in progress.
